Motocaddy S1 Digital wins Golf Monthly trolley test

We are pleased to announce that the Motocaddy S1 Digital has been awarded top marks in the recent Golf Monthly trolley test, achieving an impressive score of 178/200 in the process.

The Golf Monthly testing team examined 11 different trolleys and rated them on the following criteria:

• Ergonomics and manoeuvrability
• Functionality
• Desirability/Styling
• Value
• Build quality
• Bag fit
• Ease of assembly
• Car storage

The team awarded the S1 Digital top marks for car storage and an impressive 29/30 for value and 24/25 for build quality. They reflected on it being ‘Stylish, lightweight and very easy to use’ and continued to conclude:

“The look and performance of the S1 help make it one of the best value models around. The controls are straightforward and it is easy to find your walking pace from one of the nine speed settings available. The screen is very basic, but we liked the simplicity and basic functionality of the trolley.”

The S1 Digital was also recently announced as the Proshop Europe 'Product of the Year' in November 2011.

Motocaddy Lithium Battery Warranty increased to 5-years

We are pleased to announce that we have extended the warranty on the highly reliable, super-lightweight Lithium battery from two to five years with the introduction of a five-year limited warranty on any batteries sold from the 1st January 2012*.

The popular Motocaddy Lithium battery, which has a lifetime five times that of a lead acid equivalent, is increasingly becoming the battery of choice for regular golfers – as shown by a 122% increase in sales over the last year.

We were among the first electric trolley company to offer Lithium batteries across our range in 2008.

Motocaddy S1 Digital crowned golfing 'Product of the year'

We are delighted to announce that the S1 Digital trolley has been awarded the "2011 Product of the year" title at the inaugural Pro Shop Europe golf trade awards ceremony held at Wentworth last Thursday.

The award - voted for by UK retailers and selected by a panel of golf industry experts - saw the S1 Digital selected ahead of the Taylormade R11 driver in second and Titleist ProV1 golf ball in third.

We are proud to announce that we have become an official partner of the Tour Fit for Golf programme – launched in conjunction with The European Tour Performance Institute to help improve the health and performance levels of golfers.

Devised through research headed by JJ Rivet, Biomechanics Consultant to the European Tour, the programme has proven that carrying a bag or pulling a trolley changes your physiological walking action and subsequently disrupts the balancing effect of the shoulder muscles that are crucial when swinging the golf club. The result can be dropped shots and a long-term back or shoulder problem.

To achieve peak performance on the golf course, Rivet says, golfers should conserve all their energy and direct it towards shot-making – rather than on excessive movements needed to pull or carry clubs.

“Players can be picking up or putting down bags more than 100 times every round and this has a direct effect on the leg and hip muscles connected to the shoulder movements for a golf swing,” he said.

"You never see a tournament professional carrying a bag or pulling a trolley in practice rounds because these guys understand the importance of optimising performance, rather than expend energy or risk injury. For golfers without the luxury of a caddie, the next best thing is an electric trolley,” Rivet added.

Chairman David Wells said: “Motocaddy is delighted to become an official partner of the Tour Fit for Golf programme. Research shows that tiredness actually comes from pulling or carrying clubs – rather than playing – and so we’re seeing an increase in golfers opting to use an electric trolley to improve their game.”

The Motocaddy Lithium battery, which is suitable for both the popular S1 and S3 Digital trolleys, allows golfers to play up to 36 holes a day. At 2.5kg in weight, it also ensures players avoid the muscle-damaging movements associated with lifting heavier traditional batteries.”

“Motocaddy Lithium sales have increased significantly from last year and one factor is that golfers are demanding the lightest, most efficient batteries to allow them to play more holes with less physical strain,” added Wells.

Hanson storms to stunning victory in Motocaddy Masters

Chris Hanson produced a sensational final round of 63 (-7) to win the Motocaddy Masters at Bovey Castle in Devon.

Hanson started the day four shots behind overnight leaders Dale Marmion and Graham Benson but Hanson's 63, the lowest round by any golfer on the PGA EuroPro Tour so far this season, took him to the title.

His flawless round included birdies at the second, third, tenth, 13th, 14th, 15th and 18th and left him as clubhouse leader and sweating on the outcome.

Marmion on -9 was the only man who could catch him but could only manage to shoot par at the last nine holes as Hanson won the competition and the £10,000 prize by one shot.

Hanson (Woodsome Hall, Huddersfield) has had great success at Bovey Castle as he also won there in 2006 and was a day one leader in 2007 before finishing third.

This is his first EuroPro Tour victory in five years, although he came close in 2009 when he had a five-shot lead going into the last day at Collingtree Park, Northamptonshire, but a horror final round of 81 left him in tied eighth.

"I'm a much better golfer now than I was five years ago," said Hanson. "I've matured as a golfer, have a full-time caddy and have got a really good team around me. I've just really matured and focused."

"After those mess ups I've had on final days it's nice to be able to put them all to bed now. Collingtree Park was a massive upset for me and knocked me off balance. I had some time off the EuroPro Tour so to come back and win is absolutely great.

"I think my chances of making the Challenge Tour are really high. I've played well in the first two events. But I want to get on the main tour and will just keep doing what I'm doing.

"I played fantastically today and controlled my golf ball the best I've ever done. I just stuck to my gameplan and it seemed to work.

"It's strange waiting to see if you've won as I was told Dale needed to chip in for a play-off but ten minutes later I still didn't know. I went to hit a few balls and then someone told me, but you don't feel you have won until you have the trophy.

"I knew how tough the course is but I didn't think I would have to shoot seven-under to put the pressure on so hats off to Dale as well."

Marmion, who shot 68 (-2) on Friday, was quick to congratulate Hanson. "I have to give credit where it's due and it was an unbelievable round from Chris, -7 in those conditions," said Marmion.

"I thought me shooting -2 would have been enough but unfortuantely it wasn't. But overall I'm happy with how I played and there are plenty of positives to take from it. Second isn't too bad a finish."

Gareth Evans (Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury) was in third on -6, while James Ruth, Ed Wood (Crow Wood, Glasgow) and Nick James (Wenvoe Castle, Cardiff) all finished in tied fourth on -5.

The action from Bovey Castle will be broadcast on June 29 and the next EuroPro Tour event is at Longhirst Hall, Northumberland from June 22 to 24.
